Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 9, 2026 · Last updated: October 9, 2026

Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how PDF Compressor (available at https://pdfcompressorfree.com) collects, uses, and handles information in connection with the website. The site is a static website whose core PDF tools — compression, merging, splitting, and conversion — run locally in your browser.

Information we collect

We do not require accounts, and the tools do not send your document contents to us. The limited information the site may handle is:

  • Support messages: if you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message so we can respond.
  • Basic technical information: like most websites, our static hosting provider may record standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, requested pages, and timestamps) for security and reliability. We do not use this to identify you.
  • On-device preferences: your theme choice, language choice, and last-used compression preset are stored locally in your browser (see “Cookies and similar technologies” below). They are not sent to us.
  • Error information: if file processing fails, the error is handled in your browser. We do not receive your file names, file contents, or document text.

We have not wired up any third-party analytics provider. The site contains only a client-side event helper that logs privacy-safe product events (such as compression started or completed, with aggregate size buckets) to the developer console during development; nothing is transmitted to an analytics service.

How PDF compression works

PDF compression on this site runs entirely on your device. When you add a file, it is read by JavaScript in your browser tab and processed by a background Web Worker on your own device:

  • Your PDF contents are processed in the browser — they are not uploaded to our servers.
  • Files live in temporary browser memory while you work with them.
  • Removing a file from the tool discards it from the page; closing the tab clears it from memory.
  • Downloads are generated locally in your browser from that in-memory result.

The same on-device approach applies to merging, splitting, and the image/PDF converters. Optional cloud imports (Google Drive, Dropbox) are disabled unless explicitly enabled; when disabled, only files from your device can be used.

How we use information

We use the limited information described above only to:

  • Operate the website and provide the PDF tools.
  • Respond to support requests you send us.
  • Maintain the security and reliability of the site.
  • Diagnose technical problems reported by users.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your documents for advertising. Because document processing happens on your device, we never see your documents in the first place.

File storage and retention

Files you process with the core tools are not stored on any server — they exist only in your browser's temporary memory while the page is open. Closing the tab, reloading the page, or removing a file discards it. We do not operate a server-side file store for these tools, so there is no server deletion schedule to describe: there is nothing on our servers to delete.

Support emails you send us are retained in our mailbox only as long as needed to handle your request and maintain a record of correspondence.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site uses a small number of first-party storage mechanisms:

  • Theme preference (pcf-theme, browser local storage) — remembers light or dark mode.
  • Language preference (pcf-locale, browser local storage and a same-site cookie kept for one year) — remembers the language you selected.
  • Compressor preset (pcf-last-settings, browser local storage) — remembers your last compression preset for convenience.
  • Cross-page file handoff flags (browser session storage) — short-lived technical flags used when navigating between tools; cleared with the session.

We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear or block browser storage at any time through your browser settings; the site will continue to work, but your preferences will not be remembered.

Third-party services

  • Fonts: the site loads the Inter and JetBrains Mono typefaces from Google Fonts. When the font stylesheet loads, Google receives standard technical request data (such as your IP address).
  • Static hosting: pages are served as static files by our hosting provider, which may keep standard server logs as described above.

No third-party analytics, advertising, or document-processing services are integrated into the site. If that changes, this policy will be updated.

Data security

The site's main protection is architectural: documents never leave your device, so there is no document database to breach. Pages are served over HTTPS. We do not claim security certifications we have not earned, and no website can promise absolute security — you should avoid processing documents on shared or untrusted devices, and always verify important output files before relying on them.

Responsible disclosure: if you find a security vulnerability, email[email protected]with details and reproduction steps. We will acknowledge your report within 3 business days.

Children's privacy

PDF Compressor is a general-purpose utility site not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

User rights and privacy requests

Because we do not hold accounts or document stores, most requests can be handled simply: clearing your browser storage removes locally kept preferences. For any other privacy question or request — including questions about a support email you sent — contact us at[email protected], and we will respond as applicable law requires.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this policy as the site develops. The revised version will be published on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
